In 1998, I started as a student of Architectural Technology at waterford Institute of Technology. Over the following three years, I obtained my National Certificate and Diploma in Architectural Technology graduating in 2001. During those three years, many hours were spent perfecting my construction knowledge along with drawing abilities. A strong emphasis was placed on construction detailing and producing high quality AutoCad drawings.

 

After my graduation briefly worked in the private sector before staring work in Waterford City Council in 2002. In 2004, I took a career break to travel the world before returning to my position in late 2005, where I am still a member of the Architects Department in Waterford City Council. As an Architectural Technologist in the Local Authority, it has afforded a great range of experience on extremely varied projects. Projects range from urban renewal, parks redevelopments, playgrounds, skate parks, new housing developments both green field and infill, remedial works to housing stock, working on grant schemes and many more. The involvement and duties range from producing drawings, tendering, appointing contractors, project managing the works, site supervision, running site meeting, issuing instructions, dealing with any issues that arise, snagging, managing budgets and dealing with tenants. During my time with WCC, I have also worked as a Clerk of works on Remedial Housing Scheme from 2008 to 2011. I am currently serving as an Executive Technician with in the Property Management Section dealing with mapping of council property, securing landbanks, producing PRAI compliant maps for disposals and acquisitions, along with working on various compulsory purchase orders.
